Tired of your Mac's storage filling up with countless duplicate photos, documents, and videos? DuplicateSweep is a powerful, privacy-focused utility designed to reclaim your disk space, making your system clean, fast, and organized again. All processing is done securely on your Mac—your file contents are never uploaded or shared.
[Benefit] Reclaim Gigabytes of Wasted Space
DuplicateSweep acts as your personal disk janitor, performing a deep analysis to find every identical file.
Deep Content Scan: Goes beyond just filenames and dates. DuplicateSweep reads the actual content of your files to generate a digital signature (hash), guaranteeing that the files it finds are 100% true duplicates.
[Benefit] Instantly Find and Eliminate Clutter
A clean Mac is a useful one. DuplicateSweep provides smart, automated tools to help you quickly identify and remove digital clutter in seconds, not hours.
Smart Auto-Selection: Don't waste time manually selecting files. Use powerful strategies like "Keep Oldest," "Keep Newest," or "Keep Main Folder" to automatically mark thousands of unwanted files for deletion based on your rules.
Empty Folder Cleanup: Automatically locates and lists all empty folders left behind after a cleanup, allowing you to delete them in a single click.
[Benefit] Scan with Precision and Control
Tailor your scan to find exactly what you're looking for and protect what's important.
Powerful Filtering: Easily narrow your scan to include or exclude specific file types (Images, Videos, Documents), file sizes, or modification dates.
Exclude Folders: Mark any folder as an "Exclusion." DuplicateSweep will remember your choice and permanently ignore it in all future scans—perfect for backups or work-in-progress folders.
Safe By Default: The app automatically omits system and hidden folders to protect your Mac from accidental damage. This setting can be disabled for power users who understand the risks.
[Benefit] Work with Confidence and Peace of Mind
Your files are important. DuplicateSweep includes robust safety features to ensure you're always in control and never delete the wrong thing by mistake.
Internal App Trash (Not Permanent Deletion): Files aren't deleted forever. They are moved to a safe, internal trash location within the app. You can review everything in the "Trash" view and restore any file to its original location with a single click. Permanent deletion only happens when you decide to "Empty Trash."
Undo Last Action & Undo All: Trashed the wrong set of files? Instantly undo your last trashing operation or even revert all trashing actions from your current session.
Save & Load Scans: Found a lot of duplicates but don't have time to review them now? Save your scan results to a file and load them again later to pick up right where you left off.
DuplicateSweep Support
Welcome to the official support page for DuplicateSweep. Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions and learn how to get the most out of the app.
Getting Started: Scanning Your First Folder
To begin using DuplicateSweep, you simply need to choose a folder to scan.
Launch the app and click the "Select Folder..." button.
A standard macOS Finder window will open. Navigate to and select the folder you wish to scan (e.g., your Documents, Downloads, or Photos folder).
The app will then perform a "deep scan" of that folder and all its subfolders. This process reads the content of each file to ensure that what it finds are true duplicates, not just files with the same name.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. How does DuplicateSweep find duplicate files?
DuplicateSweep finds duplicates with maximum accuracy by reading the contents of your files to create a unique digital signature (a "hash"). It then compares these signatures. This method ensures that files are 100% identical, even if they have different names, dates, or are stored in different locations.
2. Is it safe to delete the files the app finds?
Yes, the process is designed with safety as the top priority. When you "trash" a file in the app, it is not permanently deleted. Instead, it is moved to a secure, internal trash location managed by DuplicateSweep. You can review all trashed files in the "View Trash" section, restore them to their original location at any time, or permanently delete them by clicking "Empty Trash."
3. What is a "Main Folder" and how do the auto-selection strategies work?
These are powerful features to speed up your workflow:
Main Folder: This is a special folder you can designate in Settings (e.g., a primary photo library or work archive). When you use the "Keep Main Folder" strategy, the app will automatically mark for deletion any duplicates that are not located inside this designated folder.
Other Strategies: Strategies like "Keep Oldest" or "Keep Newest" automatically select files for deletion based on their modification dates, saving you from having to choose manually.
4. Can I get my files back after emptying the app's trash?
No. Emptying the trash is a permanent and irreversible action. The files are deleted from your disk and cannot be recovered by the app. It is strongly recommended to only empty the trash when you are absolutely certain you no longer need the files.
5. Why is the scan sometimes slow?
For maximum accuracy, DuplicateSweep performs a deep scan by reading the entire contents of each file to generate its hash. This process can be time-consuming, especially for folders containing very large files (like videos) or thousands of items. The progress bar will keep you updated on the status.
6. Does the app scan hidden or system folders?
By default, no. The "Omit System & Hidden Folders" setting is enabled to protect your computer from accidental damage and to speed up scans. You can disable this in Settings, but you will be shown a warning. Modifying system files can cause instability, so please proceed with extreme caution if you disable this feature.
7. Does my data or file content ever leave my computer?
Never. DuplicateSweep is designed with privacy as a fundamental principle. All scanning, analysis, and file operations happen entirely on your local machine. No file contents, filenames, or personal data are ever transmitted to any external server.
